I Interrupt this Living Dead Transmission to announce...BBAW New Treasure Interview

Book Blogger Appreciation Week 2010 has a rather groovy treasure theme going on.  Today is dedicated to new treasure, and in the spirit of finding a blog that I wouldn't necessarily have come across on my own I signed up to take part in BBAW's Interview Swop where they pair random bloggers and ask them to find out about each other.  I have been lucky enough to be paired with Deborah of the rather awesome Books, Movies and Chinese Food.

Books, Movies, and Chinese Food

How did you get into blogging and why do you blog?
I started blogging in September 2006 after I got influenced by author Camy Tang's blog.  The reason why I started my blog was merely to tell other people about the books I read.  I figured there had to be SOMEONE in the online world who shared my same interest in books as I had yet to meet very many people in real life who read the same books I did.  I had no idea there was a book blogging community and I didn't know anything about review copies, ARCs, all that sort of stuff.  I merely did it for my own interests.  I continue blogging now for the same reasons.  I want to tell people about the books I read and I'm having a lot of fun doing it.  It's been great meeting other bloggers at the National Book Festival in DC and at BEA and Book Blogger Con in NYC. I'm hoping to be able to meet more of them in the future.

If you could trade places with any literary character, who would it be and why?
Oh this is hard.  There are SO many characters to choose from! Well this is going to sound rather juvenile but I'm going to go with Claudia Kishi from The Baby Sitters Club! Why? Well for several reasons 1) She can eat TONS of junk food and not gain any weight.  2) She's gets to wear the weirdest get ups of clothing and everyone thinks she looks fabulous 3) She's lived an awesome life even though she's only 13. 4) I want to be part of the Baby Sitters Club. Hah.

You read incredibly quickly, and have done since a young age - out of what I am sure are many book memories, what is your favourite?
Again, another hard question! I've read so many good books (and lots of bad ones as well) throughout my life and there are many classics that are my favorites.  I will have to go with the Harry Potter series.  I discovered them a bit late, I saw the first movie in theaters BEFORE I read the books, so I was rather shocked to find out that it wasn't Snape who was the culprit.  When I did read the first book, I became hooked and have been a fan ever since.  I read the last book on the day it came out in 4 hours and sobbed when I finished.  Every year sine then, I either read or listen to all the books on CD and I find that they never get old.  I hope in the future to introduce to my kids and hope they enjoy them as much as I did.

Elvis is dead...or is he.  Discuss.
Unfortunately the Elvis that keeps appearing seems to be the 70s fat Elvis with the white jumpsuit.  As a fan of the 50s Elvis who never seems to make any appearances I find this very disappointing.  So I will say that the Elvis I wish was alive is alas dead.  Now if only John Lennon or George Harrison was alive...

Your blog is called Books, Movies and Chinese Food - incorporating all of these elements, describe your ideal evening.
Since it's impossible for me to read and watch a movie at the same time, I will go with this.  A Foodie movie based on a Foodie book while I eat Chinese Food, preferably Roast Pork Lo Mein.  Perfect! (or if I don't have a movie on me, a Foodie show on the Travel Channel will do in a pinch)

Tell us one thing about yourself that you think would surprise people.
Since everyone already knows I am scared of Ronald McDonald, here's another little tidbit about me: For someone who's a huge movie buff, I've never seen ET, The Godfather, To Kill a Mockingbird, Jaws, Silence of the Lambs, or Casblanca.  All huge movie classics.  I just haven't had any real desire to see any of them, even though I know they are supposed to be good.  *Shrugs*

As this interview will be posted during my Week of The Living Dead, please share how you personally would survive the zombie apocalypse.
Does running and hiding count?  Actually that would be absolutely terrifying if I was ever caught in that situation.  I keep picturing that scene in 28 Days Later when they are in the dark tunnel and are getting chased by the Infected.  That's probably what my situation would be like. I guess I need to reread my copy of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and take notes from that.

A huge thank you to Deborah for taking the time to answer these faintly ridiculous questions and for asking me some very fun questions in return. I had a lot of fun reading her answers and am sure that you all did too.  Now get over to her excellent blog and acquaint yourself with her massive reading list, insightful reviews and gorgeous layout!

Harry Potter! I need to reread the entire series again. *sigh*

And I agree completely re: Elvis = dead. By now he'd be decrepit anyway...

Nice interview!
