For review
I Am Number Four
Pittacus Lore
Penguin 2010
"We were nine.  Three are dead.  I am number four"... Who wouldn't want to read that?  I cannot tell you how excited I was to get this through my door this week.  Have just started it and am delighted to report that it, thus far, is living up to my expectations.

The Eternal Ones
Kirsten Miller
Penguin 2010
Having initially been put of this title by its, quite frankly, boring and rather ugly cover I am glad that I have now been given a chance to read it (I wouldn't have picked it up in a shop - I am shallowly swayed hugely by covers).  I really enjoyed what turned out to be an original, funny and latterly chilling read.  Review to follow soon.

The Carrie Diaries
Candace Bushell
Harper Collins 2010
I am not a fan of Sex And The City. I cannot state this strongly enough.  Yet I have never read any of the books and suspect that it may be the actresses in the series that I dislike rather than the characters.  I therefore jumped at a chance to review this title and am curious to see what I think.

Fortune
Megan Collins
Harper Collins 2010
Hee!  This, to me, looks rather like a YA Danielle Steele.  Fab.  Am off on holiday on Saturday and this is definitely going with me.  With any luck it will be entirely trashy, entirely unrealistic and entirely guilty, escapist fun.

Bought
By Midnight
Mia James
Gollancz 2010
This has been on my wishlist for a while and I decided to pick it up despite reading some fairly ambivilant reviews since it came out.  I like that the protagonist is from Edinburgh (like me) and I love spooky old boarding school stories so it all sounds pretty good to me.

The Dead Tosses Waves
Carrie Ryan
Gollancz 2010
I was absolutely blown away by The Forest of Hands and Teeth last year and have no idea why I didn't rush out and buy this on its release.  Perhaps you just have to be in the right mood for zombies.  Also both this, By Midnight and Zog (Julia Donaldson, for my 2-year-old) were on offer in Waterstones... I have high hopes for this and have no doubt that it will be beautifully written, harshly drawn and entirely thought provoking.  Not that my expectations are overblown in any way... oh, no....

Gifted
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Seth Grahame-Smith/Jane Austen
Quirk Classics 2010
As many of you may know, I am not a fan of Pride and Prejudice.  In fact, it would give me great pleasure to see many of the characters eaten alive so this is probably just about perfect for me.  Thank you to the lovely Astrid for this x

That's all for this rather late instalment. I've was at the Edinburgh Festival for several days this week and am off to the Orkney Isles tomorrow so am a bit behind on all aspects of blogging.  Hope to get a lot of reading done this week though and will be back with a vengeance as of the 21st!

That is a fab group of books right there! Luckily I have a copy of I Am Number Four already, but By Midnight! The Eternal Ones! Dead Tossed Waves! Where will you start?

Looking forward to hearing about the books you've read while you've been travelling around :)

Yay for I Am Number Four! Still looking forward to that one. I think you have your expectations of Fortune pitched just right. I thought it was all of those things.
Great book week. Happy reading. The Dead Tossed Waves is awesome :D
